Starting a Chapter

INCOSE encourages the formation of chapters to serve its members. Specific geographic areas define each chapter. An example of a service to the membership is the conduct of meetings. Steps for forming a chapter are summarized in the table below. These steps are described in detail in the Chapter Start-Up Guidelines: Procedure For Creating A New INCOSE Chapter (221 KB PDF Icon). These guidelines also describe resources available from INCOSE, sample informational meeting survey, chapter programs lessons learned, instructions and template for chapter bylaws, and the chapter charter application.

Description of Steps

  1. Determine need and viability of new INCOSE chapter
  2. Generate interest from individuals and sponsors

  1. Identify a “core team” of 5-6 persons
  2. Hold an informational meeting to introduce INCOSE in the area
  3. Create a Chapter Advisory Committee

  1. Achieve membership quota of 10 or more individuals
  2. Hold an organizational meeting to elect interim officers and approve bylaws
  3. Grow the chapter and apply for INCOSE Charter

  1. Achieve membership quota of 25 or more individuals
